#23: Self-care In Minutes + Free E-Book

For my 49th birthday I wanted to do something special. As part of aging, and what I believe as arriving in the midst of my life, I became quite aware of my own needs and an expert of my self-care routine. Simply because I had to.

From chaos to calm
At the age of 29, I had massive panic attacks while working in a racing and stressful environment.  I was totally burnt-out for a year, and despite this experience was a huge wake-up call, it wasn’t enough to take my health and well-being seriously. At least not yet.
During these panic attacks, which were at worst while driving on the highway, not only did I like I was going to die, but also did I feel the huge burden for causing others troubles. While driving or better said, literally racing, I pulled over as soon as I could, but the way I See it now, those panic attacks were a physical metaphor of this constant battle between my head and heart.

I felt over responsible for things I couldn’t control, and for many years I felt weak and guilty when my energy level was low. At the same time, I was also very eager to improve my health and emotional well-being, so a few years later, I trained myself to become a yoga & meditation teacher, and collected several methods on how to slow down.

As life can feel like a marathon, self-care is a practice of taking an active role in protecting your well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.
